5 steps to vendor selection
Based on our experience of more than 250 customer projects in the D/A/CH region, we have identified five relevant steps in a vendor selection:

1. Clarify priorities and estimate costs:
The choice of technical tools and services is and services is extremely wide - as are the price differences. Tip: Start the process in a structured way - corporate risks, status quo cybersecurity, roadmap.

2. Concept and specification with decision criteria:
Description of possible concept alternatives and requirements for the solution. In the process important decision criteria should at least be fixed internally. Tip: Depending on the scope, approx. 15 - max. 50 criteria, otherwise you will lose yourself in incidental details.

3) Identification of possible providers and invitation to tender:
Preliminary clarification of suitable security providers. Tip: For this, you should primarily access your network and consider recommendations. A pure Google search will often bring disillusionment. bring disillusionment. Ideally, the actual invitation to tender should be carried out anonymously by a partner, so that your sensitive information remains protected.

4. Bid comparison and decision template:
Analyze the offers in terms of requirements and decision criteria. Tip: Simulate the prices, e.g., over durations (3 - 5 years) and scenarios - this is the only way to obtain comparability. Transparent processing helps for internal decision-making.

5. Vendor discussions and purchasing decision:
Set a clear agenda and steer the discussion to the actual offer. Tip: Remember that vendors can often only be purchased through defined partners such as system houses. Here, there are large price differences between different partners for the same manufacturer.
