Later this year BME and AHK Turkey will again jointly present sourcing options in Turkey. The 2nd German-Turkish Business Day on the 7th of December in Izmir will give BME buyers a compact insight into Turkish procurement and sourcing market. "In numerous commodity groups, Turkey offers exciting opportunities and alternatives in the area of nearshoring," says Olaf Holzgrefe, Head of International at BME. "Especially in the areas of castings and metal, Turkey has potential, which has already been confirmed by the BME-Expert-Council-Turkey."

The procurement market in Turkey is both - exciting and challenging. On the one hand, inflation remains high and the Turkish government has been trying to stimulate consumption and exports with a continuing low-interest policy. On the other hand, Turkey offers a broad portfolio of competent companies that provide opportunities for German buyers. Looking at the Purchasing Managers' Index, this interesting picture becomes clear. In August, Turkey's Purchasing Managers Index was 51.8 and thus in the growth range. Only India (57.8) was able to achieve a better value among the large markets. In the same period, just the ASEAN region (51.0), China (50.5) or Mexico (50.9) had similar values. In comparison, Germany had the lowest score (38.8) of all major economies in August.
"The potential is there, but it must be used wisely and sensibly," Olaf Holzgrefe continues. Together with its partner, AHK Turkey, BME is now offering its members the opportunity to efficiently and professionally screen Turkish sourcing market and identify suitable suppliers with this B2B activity. Having the AHK as a local partner is a great help for our buyers, as it also provides market know-how and support for our members on-site.
Thilo Pahl, Secretary-General of AHK Turkey has already emphasized this in an interview with BME: “In the medium to long term, German companies rate Turkey's economic potential as high. The infrastructure is excellent in many cases, the industrial base is broad, there are many logistical options for trade with Europe, production is still comparatively cheap, and the availability of labour and skilled workers is good. For these reasons, more and more German companies are also investing in Turkey. Last year, direct investments were just under 700 million US dollars. This is the second highest value in the last 13 years. Turkey is benefiting from the trend towards nearshoring. However, this applies predominantly to those companies that already know the Turkish market. Investments by German companies that have not previously been involved in Turkey are much rarer. There is great economic potential in the field of renewable energies and green hydrogen. The natural conditions for wind and solar energy are excellent in Turkey."
A large number of German buyers have already expressed their interest. AHK Turkey is currently starting the supplier search process based on the the buyers' specific procurement needs in Turkey. At www.bmematchmaking.com, buyers still have the opportunity to register free of charge. Selection and participation are then subject to a transparent review process. Buyers will be able to meet up to 20 suppliers in pre-scheduled meetings on-site. It is not only efficient, but also results-oriented. "There is no easier or better way to discover potential," say buyers about BME's matchmaking.
