Whether nearshoring, Local4Local, risk management or diversification - supply chain and supplier management will continue to pose numerous challenges for buyers in 2023. New suppliers and sourcing alternatives are in demand.
To further support its members in special times, BME has expanded its B2B matchmaking activities this year. "We continue to turn to Southern and Eastern Europe, but also to Southeast Asia, North Africa or Turkey," says Olaf Holzgrefe, Head of International at BME. "Together, we are looking at over 20 countries with purchasing. In addition, however, we have extended our service portfolio and now offer search processes digitally with the online platform www.bmematchmaking.com."
There are already more than a dozen B2B matchmaking events in the BME International calendar. Established and new sourcing projects in the Republic of Moldova, the Baltic States, Serbia, Hungary and the Czech Republic are on the agenda for the first half of the year.
Furthermore, buyers can identify suppliers from Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos as well as Cambodia and meet them in online B2B matchmaking meetings at the 2nd Purchasing Initiative Southeast Asia in May, which is organised on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), in cooperation with German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs).
In the second half of the year, Italy and Turkey will offer further attractive sourcing options. Moreover, the 3rd Maghreb Purchasing Initiative will give buyers the opportunity to meet potential supplying partners from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco personally in Dortmund in November 2023.
The 9th CEE Procurement & Supply Forum in fall will be another highlight of 2023. Last year just under 30 German companies met with around 100 suppliers from more than 13 Eastern European countries during the conference. This year, BME plans to include further Eastern European countries more intensively in the program. The main focus of all B2B matchmaking events and supplier searches continues to be on direct as well as production materials, engineering and IT services sectors.
"As before, we want to build bridges between global procurement markets," emphasizes Olaf Holzgrefe. "In addition to demand- and quality-oriented access, transparency is also required. We place specific requirements of our buyers in the center of our B2B activities."
This is one of the reasons why BME International together with its Global Sourcing Specialist Group is launching the "Sourcing Map" project in March. Interested purchasing managers can register under www.bmematchmaking.com free of charge, express their procurement needs and take part in various projects depending on their strategy, needs and wishes.
